Breaker & panel problems
What usually goes wrong
A breaker that trips once when too much is running is doing its job. One that trips over and over, will not reset, hums or feels warm is telling you something is wrong. Reset it once by pushing the handle fully off, then on. If it trips again, leave it off and call.
Do not take the panel cover off, put in a bigger breaker or hold a handle on with tape. Those shortcuts let wiring overheat. Many older Yolo County homes also have panels that were sized before central air, electric water heaters, EV chargers and solar.
When you call, mention the brand name on the panel door if you can see it, the rough age of the house and anything you plan to add. Ask the electrician whether a repair or an upgrade makes more sense, whether a permit is needed, and get the estimate in writing.
