Power Out? Emergency Electrician Help in Woodland & Yolo County
Whole house or part of the house without power: first work out whether it is the utility or your home.
Power out / emergency
What usually goes wrong
Look outside first. If your neighbors are out too, it is a utility outage; report it to your electric utility and wait for them. If only your home is out, or half the house works and half does not, the problem may be at your panel, meter or service connection. That is a call for an electrician, sometimes together with the utility.
Stay away from any downed line and keep kids and pets back. Treat every fallen wire as live and call the utility or 911. Do not drive over one.
If you run a portable generator, keep it outdoors, away from doors and windows, and never plug it into a wall outlet; that can backfeed the lines and hurt utility workers. Ask an electrician about a proper transfer switch or interlock. For after-hours visits, ask about the fee before anyone comes out; availability depends on the provider.
